High Point GPS gives field service and trades fleets (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, landscaping and pest control) GPS tracking that shows where every technician is, how long each job took and which tools are on which van. Dispatchers send the closest technician to an urgent call, geofences record arrival and departure at each address, and Bluetooth tags flag a tool left at a site. High Point GPS, a Geotab partner in Montreal, installs the GO10 and the add-ons, connects the data to your field-service software through the API and supports your office in English and French.

## Common problems

- Dispatchers phoning technicians to find out who is closest to an emergency call
- Self-reported timesheets and invoices that do not match what the van did
- Expensive tools and equipment left at job sites or walking off open trailers
- Take-home vans used after hours and on weekends on company fuel
- Customer disputes about late arrivals or missed visits with no record to settle them
- Drive time between jobs that nobody measures, so territories never change

## Highlights

- Live map of every van and truck for closest-technician dispatch
- Geofenced time on site per job, per technician and per week
- Small asset and tool tracking with Bluetooth tags and left-behind alerts
- After-hours movement rules and idle reports for take-home vans
- PTO On/Off Reader for bucket trucks and other vehicles with a power take-off
- API connection to dispatch and field-service software, set up by High Point GPS

## What does GPS tracking change for a field service fleet?

GPS tracking lets a field service company dispatch by actual position, bill from measured time on site and keep its tools with its vans. Without it, the dispatcher phones three technicians to find the closest one, the timesheet is written from memory at the end of the day, and a lost tool shows up as a monthly write-off.

Each GO10 GPS tracking device reports the van's position, trips, speed and engine data to the High Point GPS platform. Geofences around job addresses record arrival and departure, Bluetooth tags report which tools ride in which van, and rules flag use outside working hours. The sections below show how that applies to each trade.

## HVAC: no-heat calls and expensive tools

On a no-heat call in January, the company that arrives first usually keeps the customer. A dispatcher with a live map sees the closest van with a technician qualified for the job and gives the customer a realistic arrival time, instead of working through a call list.

An HVAC van carries a recovery machine, a vacuum pump, a combustion analyzer and gauges. Bluetooth tags on those pieces report through the van's GPS tracking device fitted with the IOX-Bluetooth module, so the platform knows which van holds each tool and sends a left-behind alert while the van is still close to the site.

## Plumbing: emergency calls and time on the job

A burst pipe on a Sunday is won by response time, and live location lets the dispatcher send the closest available plumber and check the choice on the map first. For billed work, a geofence at each job records when the van arrived and left, the timesheet fills itself in, and the invoice matches the truck.

When logged hours and van data disagree, the gap is visible and gets handled once. The same data shows drive time between consecutive jobs, which is where a routing change or a territory split pays off.

## Electrical: bucket trucks, boom hours and take-home vans

Electrical contractors often run bucket trucks next to their service vans. The PTO On/Off Reader connects to the power take-off's engagement signal and to the GPS tracking device, so the platform records when the boom's hydraulics were working, with time and location. PTO hours can then set the service interval for the hydraulics, instead of engine hours that include the drive to each job.

Take-home vans are standard in the trades. After-hours movement rules flag a van that moves outside the schedule, trip reports separate the drive home from a detour, and idle reports show an engine left running through lunch. A written policy plus a weekly report handles it without accusing anyone.

## Landscaping: time on property, mowers and trailers

A landscaping contract is priced on an estimate of crew time per property. A geofence around each property measures the real time on site per job, per crew and per week, so long-running jobs get repriced before the next season. Bluetooth tags on zero-turns, stand-ons and trimmers record which trailer each machine left on and flag any that did not come back.

Landscape trailers with no power can carry the battery-only GO Anywhere, which reports hourly for up to 10 years and appears on the map next to the trucks. Many landscapers plow in winter: the same trucks then take plow and spreader inputs for proof of service, covered on our Snow Removal and Winter Maintenance page.

## Pest control: recurring routes and proof of each visit

Pest control runs on recurring visits to the same addresses, often under contracts that promise a set number of visits. A geofence at each account records the arrival and departure of the van for every visit, so the office can show a client when the technician was on site without asking the technician to reconstruct the day.

Routes repeat, which makes drive time between stops worth measuring and stop order worth changing. Dispatch and routing tools work from the same live positions, and after-hours rules cover vans that technicians take home with their equipment on board.

## How does the data reach your field-service software?

Through the platform's API. High Point GPS connects live van locations and the arrival and departure times at each job to the dispatch or field-service system your office already uses, so dispatchers see tracking data in their own screens. Custom add-ins can show trade-specific data inside the High Point GPS platform as well.

Our installers fit the GO10 with a harness on the OBD-II port or a 3-wire kit, add the IOX-Bluetooth module where you tag tools, and can add a GO Focus Plus AI dash cam for vans where video helps settle collision claims. Our Montreal team then supports dispatchers, technicians and office staff in English and French.

## FAQ

### How does GPS tracking help a field service dispatcher?

Live location for every van lets a dispatcher assign the nearest qualified technician instead of phoning around. That shortens the response to urgent calls, such as a no-heat call or a burst pipe, and gives the customer a realistic arrival time. The dispatcher can check the choice on the map before sending anyone.

### Can this replace manual timesheets for field crews?

Yes. A geofence at each job records when the van arrives and leaves, and engine-on and engine-off times show the working day, so timesheets fill in from what each vehicle did. Your office spends less time checking self-reported hours, and any gap between logged hours and van data is easy to spot.

### Can I track tools in the vans?

Yes. Bluetooth tags on expensive tools, such as a recovery machine, a combustion analyzer or a zero-turn mower, report through GO devices fitted with the IOX-Bluetooth module. The platform knows which van or trailer holds each tagged item and sends a left-behind alert when one stays at a site. Tag batteries last up to 3 years.

### Can the platform track PTO use on a bucket truck?

Yes. The PTO On/Off Reader connects to the power take-off's engagement signal and to the GPS tracking device, and records each on and off state with time and location. You can see when the boom was working, set hydraulic service intervals on PTO hours, and get alerts when the PTO runs outside working hours.

### Can tracking integrate with my field-service software?

Yes. The platform's API sends live van locations and the arrival and departure times for each job into your dispatch or field-service system. High Point GPS sets up the connection, so dispatchers see tracking data inside the software they already use instead of switching between two screens during a busy morning.

### Can I see if take-home vans are used after hours?

Yes. After-hours movement rules flag a van that moves on a weekend or outside the schedule, trip reports show the route home compared with any detour, and idle reports show engines left running. The facts arrive in a weekly report, so any conversation with a technician starts from the record instead of a guess.
