## How Do You Certify HOS Logs in Geotab Drive?

To certify your HOS logs in Geotab Drive, tap HOS on the Dashboard, open the Logs tab, and review the day. Fix anything missing, accept or reject any edits your carrier suggested, then certify the day's log and confirm your agreement. Uncertified days and carrier edits show in a banner at the top of the Logs tab, so you can see what is waiting.

Certifying is a legal step. In the US, 49 CFR 395.30(b) requires the driver to review the ELD records, correct what is wrong, enter what is missing and certify them by selecting Agree after the statement: I hereby certify that my data entries and my record of duty status for this 24-hour period are true and correct. The CCMTA's ELD guidance for Canada says the same in plainer terms: drivers and authorized carrier staff can make limited edits with an annotation, and the driver must certify that any carrier edit is accurate.

## Step by Step: Review and Certify a Day

These steps follow Geotab's support article on the Logs page of Geotab Drive. If a label on your device differs, go by what the app shows.

| Step | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| 1. Open your logs | Tap HOS on the Dashboard, then choose the Logs tab near the top of the HOS page. |
| 2. Pick the day | Use the arrows to the left and right of the date, or tap the date to open the calendar. The device keeps the most recent 14 days in the US and 28 days in Canada, depending on the ruleset; connect to the internet to load an older date. |
| 3. Add missing locations | If a banner lists logs with missing location, tap it, choose the day, and open the location prompt next to the log. Enter the address, confirm it, then save. |
| 4. Add a missing log | On the right day, use the option at the top right of the graph to add a missing log entry. Enter the status, the date, the vehicle and an annotation, then save it. |
| 5. Answer carrier edits | Tap the banner for logs that need your input. Open each carrier-edited log and accept or reject the carrier's proposed edit. Accepting updates the log right away; rejecting keeps it uncertified and notifies your administrator. |
| 6. Certify | Scroll through the day's entries. When you are confident they are correct, certify the day's log, then confirm your agreement in the dialog. |

## What Do the Colours on the Geotab Drive Log Graph Mean?

The graph shows each day as 24 hours of duty status, with the total time in each status at the right. Tap any log below the graph for its details. Geotab colour-codes the bars so you can spot a day that needs attention before you certify it.

| Colour on the graph | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| Green | Certified logs |
| Grey | Uncertified logs |
| Yellow | Edited logs |
| Red | Driving in violation of the HOS ruleset |
| Striped OFF | Personal Conveyance |
| Striped ON | Yard Move |
| Blue | Breaks that meet the break requirements (Canadian rulesets only) |

## What Can a Driver Edit, and What Can't Be Changed?

Drivers can add missing logs, add locations and annotate entries, and every change or addition must carry an annotation (49 CFR 395.30(c)). Driving time recorded by the ELD is a different matter: the CCMTA states that time recorded while the vehicle is in motion cannot be edited or changed to non-driving time. In Geotab Drive, annotations are optional by default, but your administrator can make them mandatory.

Carrier edits need your answer. Under 49 CFR 395.30(d), the carrier can request edits only after you have submitted the records, you must confirm or reject them, and you recertify for the changes to take effect. The carrier may not coerce a driver into a false certification. In MyGeotab, Geotab notes that HOS logs can only be moved between co-drivers, and both users must accept the change in Geotab Drive.

## When Should You Certify Your Logs?

Certify once the day's last entry is made. The US rule says the driver certifies the record immediately after the final required entry has been made or corrected for the 24-hour period, and recertifies after any later edit. Geotab Drive helps by asking you to certify your logs when you log out, along with setting your duty status and confirming any active exemptions.

Geotab adds that the automatic login and logout prompts focus on recent logs within the normal sync window. If an administrator asks you to review an older date, connect to the internet, open the HOS Logs calendar and load that date before you review or accept the edit.

## What Does the Office See in MyGeotab?

Administrators see the same logs in MyGeotab under Compliance > HOS > Logs, where they can suggest edits, print a compliance-ready set of logs for a driver, and transfer logs to enforcement. Geotab reminds administrators that all logs must be verified before they are submitted to enforcement officials, which is one more reason to certify each day instead of letting days pile up.

High Point GPS sets up Geotab Drive and MyGeotab for its fleets, including rulesets and who can edit logs, and supports drivers and administrators when a log does not look right.

## FAQ

### What happens if I reject a carrier edit in Geotab Drive?

The log stays as it was and remains uncertified, and Geotab Drive notifies your administrator that you rejected the edit. Accepting an edit updates the log right away. Either way, review the day again and certify it once it is correct, because US rules require a driver to recertify a record after any edit.

### Why can't I see older days on the Logs tab?

Geotab Drive keeps a normal sync window on the device: the most recent 14 days in the US and 28 days in Canada, depending on the ruleset. To open an older date, connect to the internet and select it from the calendar. When the device is offline, only dates already on the device can be viewed.

### Can I change driving time recorded by the ELD?

No. The CCMTA states that an ELD records all the time a commercial vehicle is in motion as driving time, and that time cannot be edited or changed to non-driving time. You can add missing logs, add locations and annotate entries, and each change needs an annotation explaining why it was made.

### Does Geotab Drive remind me to certify my logs?

Yes. Uncertified days show in a banner at the top of the Logs tab, with a banner above each day's graph, and the app asks you to certify your logs when you log out. US rules require certification right after the last entry of each 24-hour period, so certify daily instead of waiting.
