## How Do You Log In to Geotab Drive?

To log in to Geotab Drive, enter your username and tap Next, enter your password and tap Log in, then select the vehicle you are driving, add any trailer, and tap Save and continue. The app syncs your driver profile, shipment details and inspection records, then opens the Dashboard.

Selecting the vehicle is the step that matters for compliance. Geotab's MyGeotab documentation explains that when a driver logs in to Geotab Drive and selects a vehicle, the driver is assigned to that vehicle, and trips made while assigned are associated with the driver's account. When the driver logs out, the assignment ends.

You need a driver profile before the app lets you in. Your fleet administrator creates it in MyGeotab and gives you the username and password. Geotab states plainly that if you have not been set up as a driver, you will not be able to log in.

## Step by Step: Logging In and Selecting a Vehicle

These steps follow Geotab's support article on logging in to Geotab Drive. Screens can change between app versions, so if a label on your device differs, go by what the app shows.

| Step | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| 1. Enter your username | On the login screen, enter your Username and tap Next. If the database name shown below the username is wrong, open the advanced login options and enter the database (and, if needed, the server) your administrator gave you. |
| 2. Enter your password | Enter your Password and tap Log in. |
| 3. Select the vehicle | Search for the vehicle with the search bar, or pick it from the list of nearby and recently selected vehicles. Tap No vehicle only when you need the app without a vehicle, for example to edit duty status logs. |
| 4. Add a trailer (optional) | Tap the + to pair a trailer or other equipment. Search for it, pick it from the nearby and recent trailers, or type a name to create it if it does not exist in your database yet. Move on to the next screen when you are done. |
| 5. Save and continue | Tap Save and continue. The app syncs your data and opens the Dashboard. Drivers who record hours of service also see a notice if Personal Conveyance (PC) or Yard Move (YM) is enabled. |

## How Do You Change or Remove a Vehicle After You Log In?

You do not have to log out to switch trucks. On the Dashboard, tap the vehicle icon. If no vehicle is selected, choose the vehicle by searching or picking from the list. If one is already selected, tap the X next to it to remove it, then select another vehicle or tap No vehicle.

Trailers work the same way on that screen: tap the + to add one, or the X next to a trailer to unpair it. Tap the arrow at the top left to go back to the Dashboard.

## How Do You Log Out of Geotab Drive?

On the Dashboard, tap your name at the top right, then tap Log out. If a trailer is paired, keep it paired by tapping Save and continue, or unpair it with the X next to its name. Logging out also unpairs you from the vehicle.

Depending on what happened during the shift, the app may ask for a few more actions first: an asset inspection if the vehicle moved while you were logged in, and, for drivers who record hours of service, setting your duty status, certifying your logs and confirming any active exemptions.

Log out at the end of the day instead of leaving the app signed in. Geotab notes that trips made while you are logged out are still recorded by the vehicle's telematics device, but they are not assigned to a driver, so someone in the office has to sort them out later.

## What If Geotab Drive Will Not Let You Log In?

Check the database name first. If the name under your username is not your fleet's database, use the advanced options on the login screen to correct it. If you do not know the database or server name, ask your administrator.

On a first login, some users see a message that the device may be missing a web browser or that its date and time may be set incorrectly. Geotab's advice is to log in again normally and ask your administrator to check that the device is set up correctly.

Always log in with your own account. In the US, 49 CFR 395.22(e) requires the motor carrier to have its drivers log in to the ELD with their proper identification data. In Canada, section 77(5) of the Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service Regulations has the driver input or verify, among other items, their driver identification number and the vehicle's licence plates and unit number.

## Who Sets Up Geotab Drive for Your Fleet?

Your fleet administrator, or your Geotab partner, creates the driver profiles, vehicles and trailers in MyGeotab before anyone logs in. High Point GPS is a Geotab partner: it installs the GO device, sets up MyGeotab and Geotab Drive, and supports drivers and administrators afterwards. When a driver cannot log in, High Point GPS support can check the driver profile and the database settings with your administrator.

## FAQ

### Can I use Geotab Drive without selecting a vehicle?

Yes. On the vehicle screen, tap No vehicle to use the app without one, for example to edit your duty status logs from the office. Trips are tied to your account only while you are assigned to a vehicle, so select the vehicle before you drive and log out when your shift ends.

### What happens to my trips if I forget to log in to Geotab Drive?

The vehicle's telematics device still records the trips, but they are not assigned to any driver. For drivers on electronic logs, an administrator then has to review that unassigned driving in MyGeotab. Logging in and selecting the vehicle before you move is what attaches the driving time to your own account.

### Can two drivers be logged in to Geotab Drive on one device?

Yes. Geotab says Geotab Drive supports up to 3 co-drivers logged in to the same device, which suits team driving. Each driver logs in with their own username and password, so each person's hours of service stay on their own account instead of being mixed with a co-driver's records.

### Why does Geotab Drive show the wrong database name?

The app can show a database other than the one your fleet uses. On the login screen, open the advanced login options and enter the correct database and, if needed, the server. Your fleet administrator or your Geotab partner, such as High Point GPS, can give you the right names if you do not have them.
