Florida runs long peninsular distances, heavy construction and service activity, and heat that shortens the life of anything marginal under a hood. High Point GPS handles the Geotab hardware, installation and reporting for Florida carriers, with IFTA credentials obtained where Florida actually issues them.

Why Florida fleets work with High Point GPS

  • IFTA administered by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, not a revenue department
  • No fee for the annual IFTA licence; decals are $4.00 per set
  • Asset tracking for construction and service fleets working away from any yard
  • Heat-aware maintenance and battery reporting, where a marginal component fails sooner

Florida Issues IFTA Through the DMV

Most states run IFTA out of a department of revenue or taxation. Florida runs it through the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, alongside IRP. It is a small difference that costs real time for a carrier expanding into Florida and looking in the wrong agency for its credentials.

The fees are modest: no charge for the annual licence, and $4.00 per set of decals. As everywhere, the licence is the cheap part and the quarterly return — distance by jurisdiction, fuel by jurisdiction, records that survive review — is the actual obligation.

Distance, Heat and Equipment That Stays Out

The peninsula makes for long runs with limited alternate routing, and a truck heading down to South Florida is committed in a way it would not be on a grid of interstates. Knowing where a vehicle actually is, rather than where the schedule says it should be, is worth more under those conditions.

Heat does the rest. Cooling systems, batteries and tyres that would degrade slowly elsewhere fail faster here, which moves fault-code reporting and maintenance scheduling from a nice-to-have to the thing that decides whether a repair happens at a shop or on a shoulder in August.

Frequently asked questions

Which Florida agency issues IFTA credentials?

The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, which handles IFTA alongside IRP — unlike most states, where IFTA sits with a revenue or taxation department.

What does IFTA cost in Florida?

There is no fee for the annual IFTA licence. Decals are $4.00 per set.

Can High Point GPS track equipment with no diagnostic port?

Yes. Trailers, generators and other unpowered or non-standard assets use asset trackers rather than a port-connected device, which is the usual answer for construction and service fleets.
