The GO device plugs into a vehicle's OBD-II or 9-pin diagnostic port and reads data directly off the engine control module: location, speed, heading, trip start and stop times, harsh-event data, and engine diagnostics. That data streams over a built-in cellular connection to Geotab's servers, typically refreshing every few seconds while the vehicle is moving, and shows up in MyGeotab within seconds to a couple of minutes.

The GNSS module (Global Navigation Satellite System, not just GPS) is what keeps that signal reliable in places a basic consumer tracker struggles: underground parking garages, dense downtown blocks with tall buildings, and covered loading docks. For a fleet that spends real time in urban cores, that reliability difference shows up constantly, not just as an edge case.

MyGeotab's live map shows every vehicle's current location and status at a glance, which is what most dispatchers check first thing in the morning and periodically through the day. Trip history lets you reconstruct exactly where a vehicle went and when, useful for everything from a customer ETA question to a formal dispute. Driver behavior scoring aggregates harsh events, speeding, and idling into a trend a safety manager can actually coach against, rather than reacting to isolated incidents.

Engine fault and maintenance alerts pull the same diagnostic trouble codes a mechanic's scan tool would read, surfaced automatically instead of waiting for a driver to mention a dashboard light. None of this requires a premium tier: it's part of the standard MyGeotab reporting suite included with every High Point GPS package.

This is the right starting point for essentially any commercial fleet, regardless of size or vehicle type: light-duty vans, medium-duty trucks, heavy trucks (with the ruggedized GO RUGGED device), and equipment (via IOX-BT asset tags). Fleets as small as a handful of vehicles and fleets running hundreds run on the same underlying platform, since MyGeotab scales by adding devices, not by changing systems.

This platform is the foundation the rest of High Point GPS's solutions build on. Compliance (ELD, DVIR, IFTA) runs on the same GO device and the same MyGeotab login. AI dash cams plug into the same platform through the IOX expansion port. Custom Add-Ins and integrations read from the same underlying data feed. That's a deliberate design choice, not a coincidence: one device, one login, and every other capability layers on top of it rather than requiring a separate system.
