Verizon Connect is the fleet telematics division of a major telecom carrier, and the parent company shows in how it is positioned and sold. It is often bundled with a customer's existing Verizon cellular contract or priced against it, and it enters government and enterprise RFPs carrying the procurement trust a large telecom brand brings.

High Point GPS is a Montreal-based fleet tracking provider. It supplies the GPS tracking device and the High Point GPS platform, an open platform with a public SDK and a large third-party add-on library. An open platform with a partner who builds on it leaves more room for that than a platform where deployment and features follow one company's roadmap.

The decision usually comes down to four questions. First, does your fleet need an integration or workflow that is not a standard feature? An open SDK and a partner who builds add-ins help there, and a single vendor's roadmap does not. Second, do you want hardware or cameras from a specific manufacturer?
