High Point GPS vs Verizon Connect: A Local Telematics Partner or a Telecom's Fleet Division

The comparison that matters is not which platform has the longer feature list. It is what kind of company is behind each one and how that shapes the experience of buying and running it. Verizon Connect is the fleet telematics division of a major telecom carrier, and that parentage shows in how it is positioned and sold: often bundled with or leveraged against a customer's existing Verizon cellular contract, and carried into government and enterprise RFP processes by the procurement trust a large telecom brand brings.

High Point GPS is a Montreal-based authorized Geotab reseller. The device is the Geotab GO and the platform is MyGeotab, an open platform with a public SDK and a large third-party Marketplace, but the company that quotes, installs, configures, builds custom integrations and answers the phone is High Point GPS, in French and English, across Canada and the United States. A fleet meets Verizon Connect through an enterprise sales process; it meets High Point GPS through a call and a site visit.

The platform High Point GPS deploys exposes its data through a documented API and SDK, publishes add-ins for MyGeotab, offers a Data Connector for BI tools and runs a Marketplace of hardware and software from many makers. High Point GPS writes custom add-ins and integrations on top of it, connecting the fleet's data to a TMS, a fuel card program or a maintenance system when no standard connector exists. Verizon Connect is a vertically integrated suite: capable, with integrations available, but with a narrower ecosystem and customization that runs through Verizon's own roadmap.

That difference in company background maps onto where each one is strongest. Verizon Connect has a real, established presence in government and public-sector fleets, where an existing telecom relationship and a recognizable enterprise brand smooth procurement in a way a smaller vendor cannot match. High Point GPS tends to matter most for fleets that need something built for how they operate: a custom add-in, an integration that is not a standard connector, or hardware from a specific manufacturer. An open platform with a partner who builds on it has more room for that than a platform where deployment and features run through one company's roadmap.

As with any telematics comparison, the structural difference matters more than a feature checklist, since both cover the GPS tracking, ELD compliance and reporting a fleet needs day to day.

Neither company publishes a fixed price list, so any dollar figure quoted online for either should be treated as a rough estimate; actual pricing depends on fleet size, hardware selection and contract terms. That is normal for this category, not a red flag for either vendor.

The decision usually turns on four questions. Whether the fleet needs an integration or a workflow that is not a standard feature, because that is where an open SDK and a partner who builds add-ins matter and a single vendor's roadmap does not. Whether the fleet wants hardware or cameras from a specific manufacturer, which the Marketplace accommodates and a closed catalogue does not. Whether the procurement process favours an incumbent telecom relationship, as some public-sector processes do, in which case Verizon Connect's positioning is a real advantage. And who, by name, installs the devices and answers the phone afterwards in the fleet's region. High Point GPS answers the last one for fleets in Quebec, Ontario and the northeastern US, and will say plainly when a fleet's situation points the other way.
