The Driver Safety Scorecard scores each driver from 0 to 100 based on how often they trigger six rules: hard acceleration, harsh braking, harsh cornering, seat belt, speeding and excessive speeding. Each rule carries a percentage weight and the weights add up to 100%. By default, excessive speeding counts for 30%, seat belt and speeding for 20% each, and the three harsh-driving rules for 10% each.

Scores fall into four risk classes: low risk (90 to 100), mild risk (75 to 90), medium risk (60 to 75) and high risk (0 to 60). You can change both the weights and the thresholds to match your own safety policy, set the threshold for excessive speeding, and have the scorecard run weekly on a dashboard or arrive by email as a PDF or Excel file.

A scorecard is a look back. It shows how well each driver followed the rules you set over the period, which is the right starting point for a coaching conversation and for spotting a driver whose results keep slipping week after week.

Collision Risk looks forward. It uses machine learning to estimate the chance of a future collision from how someone drives now, based on five preset rules: speeding, harsh acceleration, harsh braking, harsh cornering and tailgating or close following. The rules are standardized, so every fleet is measured the same way and users cannot edit them.

The platform uses each vehicle's VIN to set the right limits, so a heavy truck is measured differently from a small car, and it checks GPS data against sensor data to filter out false harsh events caused by road bumps or a loose device. Each rule break creates a risk event you can open and use as a concrete example in coaching. With the right permission, drivers can also see their own safety insights in the Geotab Drive app.

Feedback works best while the driver still remembers the moment. GO Focus Plus analyzes events on the camera itself and gives an in-cab voice alert as soon as it detects distraction, tailgating or hard braking, so the driver can correct right away. GO Focus Pro adds pre-collision and forward collision warnings and gives in-cab feedback with alerts or voice.

Vehicles without a camera can still get audible feedback. Geotab's IOX-BUZZ makes the GO device's beeper louder so drivers hear rule-based alerts over a loud engine, and GO TALK speaks pre-programmed or custom notifications about driving habits en route. Both are add-ons for the GO device.

High-severity or repeated risky events are flagged to the safety manager automatically. Smart Sequence surfaces the riskiest behaviours and events first and previews the most important moment of each one, so managers spend less time scrolling through footage. From the event, the manager reviews the video and its context, then assigns feedback or coaching in the platform, tracks the driver's progress and records improvement. Drivers read the feedback and recommended actions in the mobile app, and an Effectiveness tab in Coaching shows driver improvement trends without extra manual reporting.

Smart Driver ID matches events to the right driver, which matters for fair coaching on shared vehicles. Drivers can press an event button to flag footage they want reviewed, and privacy options include blurring and a GO Focus Plus Road Only model with no cabin lens. You choose what an event records: snapshot and video, snapshot only, video only or nothing.

For a collision, the Collision Reconstruction add-in (a beta feature) generates a reconstruction report from events flagged by the Major Collision and Minor Collision rules, using 100 Hz accelerometer data. Geotab says the higher-frequency data helps safety managers understand the forces involved and strengthens documentation for insurance claims and driver exoneration.

Video adds what the data cannot show. Dash cam event video is stored in the platform for 365 days by default, and GO Focus Plus and GO Focus Pro video can be viewed in real time from the trips history page. On trucks, GO Focus Pro supports up to four 360 side or external rear cameras plus one more rear camera, automated licence plate recognition for hit-and-run and theft incidents, and traffic light detection for intersection events.

Every program starts with the GO device in each vehicle: its 3D accelerometer and GPS feed the harsh-driving, speeding and collision rules behind the scorecard and Collision Risk. Add GO Focus Plus where you want road and cabin video with in-cab voice alerts, or GO Focus Pro on trucks that need auxiliary cameras around the vehicle and collision warnings.
