What a delivery receipt is for

A delivery receipt is the document your customer signs to confirm they received the items listed on it. It ties the delivery to an order or invoice number, so billing questions get settled with a page rather than a phone call. It also gives the person delivering a clear list to check off at the door, which cuts down on missed items.

Know where every delivery stands

A signed receipt confirms the delivery after the fact. GPS fleet tracking from High Point GPS shows where each vehicle is during the day, and route planning helps you order the stops. FleetZap, our dispatch and maintenance software, adds a driver app with proof of delivery and a live tracking link your customers receive by email.

Tips for delivery receipts

  1. Put the order or invoice number on every receipt so accounting can match it without guessing.

  2. List item codes as well as descriptions. Two products with similar names are easy to mix up at the door.

  3. Use the remarks column for anything that differs from the order: a substitute, a back order, a damaged box.

  4. Leave a copy with the customer and keep the signed original with the invoice.

Questions about delivery receipts

Is this delivery receipt template free?
Yes. You fill it in on this page, add your company name and logo, and print it or save it as a PDF from your browser. There is no sign-up, and nothing you type is sent to High Point GPS. Your entries stay in your own browser, so clear them when you use a shared computer.
What should a delivery receipt include?
A receipt number and date, the order or invoice number, the sender's and customer's names and addresses, and a line for each item with the quantity, code and description. A remarks column and a notes box record anything unusual. Both the person delivering and the person receiving sign at the bottom.
Is a delivery receipt the same as an invoice?
No. An invoice asks for payment and shows what is owed. A delivery receipt confirms that the goods were received, usually without amounts. Many businesses attach the signed receipt to the invoice, so the customer can see that what they are billed for was delivered and signed for.
Who signs the delivery receipt?
The customer or someone authorized to receive goods for them signs to confirm receipt, and the driver or staff member who delivered signs too. Ask the receiver to print their name beside the signature. If no one is there to sign, write that down along with the time and where the goods were left.
Can I keep delivery receipts digitally instead?
Yes. You can save each completed receipt from this page as a PDF. For daily deliveries, FleetZap, the dispatch and maintenance software made by High Point GPS, records proof of delivery in its driver app, and customers can follow their delivery with a live tracking link sent by email.
