GPS Fleet Tracking in Texas

GPS fleet tracking, AI dash cams, and IFTA compliance for Texas fleets, from oilfield service in the Permian to long intrastate freight runs.

Texas is large enough that a single intrastate run can be longer than a trip across three states elsewhere, and hot enough that equipment fails in ways a northern fleet rarely sees. High Point GPS sets up Geotab hardware, installation, and compliance for Texas carriers, with IFTA filed through the Comptroller's system and the tracking configured around how far these vehicles actually travel between yards.

Why Texas fleets work with High Point GPS

  • IFTA filed through Webfile, administered by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts
  • No fee for the IFTA licence or decals in Texas — two decals per vehicle at no charge
  • Asset and equipment tracking for oilfield and construction fleets working far from any yard
  • Heat-aware maintenance reporting, where an engine fault left alone becomes a roadside failure faster

Texas Charges Nothing for IFTA, Which Is Not the Same as Nothing to Do

IFTA in Texas runs through the Comptroller of Public Accounts and is filed on Webfile. The state charges no fee for the licence and none for decals, issuing two per qualified vehicle free — one of the few jurisdictions in our compliance reference that bills for neither.

The quarterly obligation is unchanged by that. Distance by jurisdiction and fuel purchased still have to be reported and still have to survive an audit, and for a fleet whose trucks routinely cross into New Mexico, Oklahoma or Louisiana mid-week, the jurisdiction split is the part that gets reconstructed wrongly when it is done from memory.

Distance and Heat

A service fleet in the Permian or a carrier running Houston to El Paso operates vehicles that are simply not coming back to a yard tonight. That changes what telematics is for: less about watching a delivery route tick along, more about knowing that a unit two hundred miles out is running, where it is, and whether it has thrown a code.

Heat compounds it. Cooling-system and battery problems that would be a slow decline in a milder climate become a stop-now failure in a Texas summer, and the value of a maintenance alert is measured in whether it arrived while the truck was still somewhere convenient.

Frequently asked questions

What does an IFTA licence cost in Texas?

Nothing. The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts charges no fee for the IFTA licence and no fee for decals, issuing two decals per qualified vehicle at no charge. Returns are filed through Webfile.

Does a Texas fleet that never leaves the state need IFTA?

IFTA applies to qualified motor vehicles operating in more than one member jurisdiction. A genuinely intrastate-only Texas fleet is outside it — but Texas is surrounded by member jurisdictions, and fleets often cross a line occasionally without treating themselves as interstate. That is worth checking before a quarter closes rather than after.

Can High Point GPS track equipment that has no diagnostic port?

Yes. Trailers, generators and other unpowered or non-standard assets use asset trackers rather than a diagnostic-port device, which is the usual answer for oilfield and construction equipment that still needs to be found.
