Halfway point between two places

The halfway point is the spot on the map that is the same straight-line distance from both places. Enter two addresses or cities, and the tool marks the midpoint on the map, finds the nearest address and shows the distance from each side in kilometres and miles.

Addresses, cities, postal codes or coordinates. The search takes a few seconds: requests are spaced one per second.

Halfway point

Enter two places to find the point halfway between them.

Straight-line midpoint, not a driving midpoint. For the distance by road, use the mileage calculator.

Place search and the nearest address: Nominatim (nominatim.openstreetmap.org), using OpenStreetMap data, a community-maintained map, so an address can be missing, approximate or out of date. Map tiles © OpenStreetMap contributors. Great-circle midpoint and haversine distance on a sphere of mean radius 6,371 km. 1 mile = 1.609344 km.

Why find the halfway point

A midpoint helps when two drivers swap a trailer, a load or equipment between two yards, or when you choose a meeting point for a crew coming from two directions. It also gives a quick sense of how far apart two places are. The point here is straight-line, so check the road distance and drive time before you set a meeting place.

See both trucks on one map

High Point GPS fleet tracking shows where every vehicle is and records each trip, the distance run and stops. A geofence around a meeting point flags when each truck arrives, so a trailer swap or a hand-off does not depend on phone calls.

Tips for picking a meeting point

  1. Use the midpoint as a starting idea, then look for a truck stop, rest area or yard nearby with room to turn and park.

  2. Check the road distance from each side: a river, a border crossing or a mountain can put the fair meeting point far from the straight-line midpoint.

  3. Type a city with its province or state, such as Kingston, ON, to avoid a place with the same name elsewhere.

  4. Copy the share link to send the same map to the other driver.

Halfway point questions

How is the halfway point calculated?
The tool finds the midpoint of the great circle between the two places, the shortest path over the surface of the Earth. That point is the same straight-line distance from both places. It treats the Earth as a sphere with a mean radius of 6,371 km, which keeps the distance within a fraction of a percent of the exact value.
Is it the halfway point by road?
No. The midpoint here is straight-line, the way a bird would fly. Roads curve, cross rivers at bridges and go around lakes, so the point halfway by road can be far from it, and the driving time from each side can differ. Use a mileage calculator that follows the roads to check the real distance from each side.
What is the nearest address shown?
After the midpoint is found, the tool asks OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service for the closest address to that point. In a city it is usually a street address; in the countryside it may be a road or a hamlet. The data is community-maintained, so check the place on the map before you send anyone there.
Can I enter coordinates instead of an address?
Yes. Type the latitude and longitude in either box, for example 45.5017, -73.5673, and the tool uses them as they are without searching. You can mix an address in one box and coordinates in the other. Coordinates are handy for a yard, a job site or a highway exit that has no street address.
Does High Point GPS keep the places I search?
No. The two places and the midpoint are kept only in the share link if you copy one. Searches go from your browser to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service, which handles them under its own privacy policy. Without a link, the map starts empty the next time you open the page.
