IFTA in Georgia: Filing and Compliance
Georgia charges no separate license fee and just $3 per set of decals, filed through the Georgia Tax Center. Here is how it actually works.

Who Administers IFTA in Georgia
The Georgia Department of Revenue administers IFTA for carriers based in the state. Registration, renewals, quarterly returns, and requests for additional decals all run through the Georgia Tax Center (GTC), the department's online portal.
One of the Lowest Decal Costs in This Series
Georgia doesn't charge a separate license fee at all, and IFTA decals cost $3 per set, one set required per qualified motor vehicle, with one decal attached on or near the driver and passenger doors of the cab. That makes Georgia one of the cheapest jurisdictions to register in among the ones covered in this series, cheaper than Pennsylvania's $12-per-vehicle fee or the $10-per-set charges used by Ontario, New Jersey, and Alberta, though not entirely free the way Texas, Ohio, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Michigan are.
Additional decals for a growing fleet, or replacements for damaged ones, can be ordered directly through GTC rather than requiring a new full application.
Filing and Recordkeeping
Georgia's quarterly filing follows the standard schedule shared across IFTA jurisdictions, and GTC applies the current tax rates automatically when a return is filed, reducing the chance of using a stale rate table by hand. Mileage and fuel records need to be kept for four years from the due or filing date, whichever is later, the same shared IFTA Procedures Manual standard used everywhere else in this series.
A Southeastern Freight Hub
Atlanta sits at the intersection of several major interstate freight routes connecting the Southeast to the rest of the country, which means a large share of the trucks passing through Georgia on any given day aren't based there. For a carrier headquartered elsewhere but running Georgia routes regularly, low decal and license costs don't reduce the underlying obligation: fuel tax still follows miles driven in the state, so accurate per-jurisdiction mileage records matter the same amount whether Georgia is a home base or just one stop on a longer route.
