Lytx Surfsight AI-12 on Geotab: What the Camera Detects and How It Integrates

Lytx built its reputation on video safety for large fleets, and Surfsight AI-12 is the dual-facing camera that brings that machine-vision detection to the Geotab platform through the Marketplace. Here's what it flags, how its events reach MyGeotab, and which fleets choose it over Geotab's own camera.

What Surfsight Is

Surfsight is Lytx's camera platform for fleets that run telematics from someone else; the AI-12 is its dual-facing unit with a road lens, a driver lens and on-device machine vision. Lytx's detection models come from one of the largest driving-video datasets in the industry, which is the company's argument for accuracy: fewer false distraction alerts, better detection in poor light, and event classification that has been tuned across many fleets.

What It Detects and Where It Goes

Road-facing: following distance, forward collision risk, lane departure, rolling stops. Driver-facing: phone use, distraction, drowsiness, seat belt, smoking and eating where enabled. Events trigger an in-cab alert, save a clip and upload it over the camera's own LTE connection. Through the Marketplace integration, events appear in MyGeotab as exceptions on the vehicle and driver, so they count on the same scorecard as the GO device's speeding and harsh-braking events, and the clips are reachable from the Geotab record. Continuous footage is retrievable from the camera's storage on request.

Who Chooses It

Fleets that already know Lytx from a previous telematics platform and want the same camera on Geotab. Fleets that want auxiliary camera channels for side and rear coverage, which the AI-12 supports. Fleets whose insurer or a client contract names Lytx. And fleets that have run a side-by-side trial and preferred its detection in their conditions, which High Point GPS arranges for larger deployments.

Installation and Plans

The camera mounts on the windshield with a power connection; the Marketplace integration is enabled in MyGeotab and the fleet's event thresholds are set. It carries its own plan for video and data. High Point GPS supplies, installs and configures Surfsight AI-12 with MyGeotab integration for fleets in Quebec, Ontario and the northeastern US.

What is the Lytx Surfsight AI-12?

A dual-facing AI dash cam from Lytx with on-device machine vision for road and driver events, integrated with MyGeotab through the Geotab Marketplace.

Do its events show in MyGeotab?

Can it add side or rear cameras?

Yes. The AI-12 supports auxiliary camera channels for extra coverage.

Why choose it over GO Focus Plus?

For Lytx's detection models, auxiliary channels, an insurer or client requirement, or familiarity from a previous platform.
