Rest area map

Use your location or enter a city, address or postal code, and the map lists highway rest areas within 25 to 200 km, closest first. Each one shows the distance, a directions link and, when the map has them, toilets, drinking water, picnic tables, truck parking and hours.

Near me asks your browser for your location only when you press it. Your location stays in your browser and is never sent to our server.

Data from OpenStreetMap contributors, a community-maintained map, updated on this site every month. Coverage varies by state and province: a rest area can be missing, closed for the season or for repairs, or tagged without its toilets or truck parking. Check the state DOT, the provincial transport ministry or the 511 road information service where one exists before you rely on one. Map tiles © OpenStreetMap.

Data: OpenStreetMap contributors (openstreetmap.org/copyright), available under the Open Database License (ODbL); places tagged highway=rest_area, defined as a place where drivers can leave the road to rest but not refuel (wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway=rest_area). Why plan rest stops ahead

A rest area is a place to stop off the highway without leaving the route, but on rural roads they can be far apart. Knowing where the next ones are lets a driver plan breaks before fatigue or the hours of service force a stop on the shoulder, and filtering for truck parking avoids pulling into a lot a tractor trailer cannot use.

See where every vehicle stops

High Point GPS fleet tracking shows the live location of every vehicle and records trips, stops and idle time automatically, so dispatch can see who is near a rest area before calling a driver. ELD hours of service and DVIR compliance run on the same system.

Tips for using the rest area map

  1. Search the town where the driver will be near the end of the shift, not only the current position.

  2. Use the 200 km radius on rural highways, where rest areas are farther apart.

  3. Check the state DOT, the provincial transport ministry or the 511 road information service where one exists before counting on a rest area: some close for the winter or for repairs.

  4. Truck parking at rest areas fills up at night, so plan a second option nearby.

Rest area map questions

Is the rest area map free?
Yes. You can search any place in Canada or the United States with no sign-up and no limit on searches. The rest areas come from OpenStreetMap, a free map maintained by volunteer contributors, and the directions link opens the route in Google Maps. High Point GPS does not store the places you search or your location.
What counts as a rest area on this map?
The map shows places tagged as highway rest areas in OpenStreetMap: spots where drivers can leave the road to rest but cannot buy fuel. Highway service areas with fuel, food and truck fuel stations are a different category, which the High Point GPS truck stop finder covers. Some small pull-offs and scenic stops are tagged as rest areas too.
Why does a rest area show no toilets or truck parking?
The labels only show what volunteers tagged on the rest area itself. Toilets, water fountains and parking are often mapped as separate points, or not yet mapped, so a rest area with no labels may still have them. Filters for truck parking or toilets therefore hide some rest areas that do offer them. Check signs or the state or provincial road site.
Is my location sent to High Point GPS?
No. Your browser asks for permission only after you select Near me, and the position stays in your browser: the map uses it to measure the distance to each rest area on your device. If you refuse access or no location is available, type a city, address or postal code instead and the search works the same way.
Are the rest areas on the map always open?
Not always. OpenStreetMap is edited by volunteers, so a rest area can be closed, seasonal or under repair without the map showing it, and opening hours appear only when someone tagged them. Before relying on a stop, check the state department of transportation, the provincial transport ministry or the 511 road information service where one exists.
