ELD Info: The Documents a Driver Must Show at a Roadside Inspection, in the App

Both the US and Canadian ELD rules require the driver to carry, and produce on request, a set of supporting documents: the ELD's user manual, a sheet describing how to transfer the hours-of-service records to an officer, a sheet describing what to do if the device malfunctions, and enough blank paper logs to cover the malfunction period. Fleets print them, put them in a binder, and the binder is in the other truck. A missing document is a violation on its own, and it is one of the most common ELD findings at roadside precisely because it has nothing to do with driving.

ELD Info is an add-in for Geotab Drive that puts the current versions of those documents on the driver's device, one tap from the log screen, in the language the driver uses. The fleet loads the set once in MyGeotab — the Geotab Drive manual, the transfer instructions for the US and Canadian methods, the malfunction procedure, and any fleet-specific instructions — and every driver has the current version without anyone printing anything. Where the rule allows an electronic copy, the tablet is the binder; where paper logs are required, the add-in tells the driver where the fleet keeps them.

The officer asks for the logs, then the documents. The driver opens ELD Info, shows the manual and the transfer sheet, and follows the transfer instructions from the same screen. The inspection moves to the truck instead of stalling on a missing PDF. For a fleet running both Canadian and US rulesets, the add-in shows the set for the jurisdiction the truck is in.

Installed into the fleet's MyGeotab database and configured with the document set; updates to the manual or procedures are pushed to every driver at once.
