ELD Settings Validator: Catching the Configuration Error Before the Officer Does
An ELD with the wrong USDOT number, a driver profile without a licence number, a vehicle whose VIN is one digit off: none of it affects the hours, and all of it fails an inspection. ELD Settings Validator scans every driver and vehicle in MyGeotab for the fields the regulation requires and lists the ones that are missing or wrong.

The Fields the Regulation Reads
The ELD record an officer receives at roadside is not only hours. It carries the carrier's USDOT number and name, the driver's licence number and issuing jurisdiction, the vehicle's VIN and unit number, the ELD's registration identifier, and the driver's home terminal and time zone. Each is a field in MyGeotab, entered when the driver or vehicle was created, usually by someone in a hurry. A blank licence field, a VIN typed from a photo, a driver on the wrong ruleset for the trip: each one is a data-quality violation at inspection, and the driver finds out at the scale.
What the Add-In Checks
ELD Settings Validator runs across the whole database and checks every driver and vehicle against the required fields: present, correctly formatted, consistent. A VIN that fails its check digit, a licence number with no jurisdiction, a driver with no home terminal, a vehicle with no odometer calibration, a ruleset that does not match the fleet's operation. It produces a list, per driver and per vehicle, of what needs fixing and why, and the administrator works through it before the next trip rather than after the next citation.
When to Run It
After onboarding a batch of drivers or vehicles, after a device swap, before a compliance review or a facility audit, and on a schedule — monthly is common — because profiles drift as people leave and trucks are replaced. Fleets that run it find a handful of errors the first time and very few after, which is the point.
Setup
Installed from the Marketplace into the fleet's MyGeotab database; it reads the existing driver and vehicle records and needs nothing else. High Point GPS runs it at the end of every ELD deployment and hands the fleet a clean database, then leaves it installed for the fleet's own monthly check.
Frequently asked questions
What is ELD Settings Validator?
A MyGeotab add-in that checks every driver and vehicle record for the fields the ELD regulation requires and lists what is missing, malformed or inconsistent.
What kinds of errors does it find?
Missing licence numbers or jurisdictions, invalid VINs, missing USDOT numbers or home terminals, wrong rulesets and uncalibrated odometers.
Do these errors really cause violations?
Yes. The ELD record transferred at roadside carries these fields, and missing or invalid data is cited independently of the driver's hours.
How often should it run?
After any onboarding or device change, before audits, and on a monthly schedule.
Does it fix the errors?
It lists them with the reason; the administrator corrects the records in MyGeotab.
