Authorized Driver Tool: Only Approved Drivers Can Start the Vehicle

The Authorized Driver Tool keeps a vehicle from starting unless the driver who taps in is on that vehicle's approved list, and a relay on the starter circuit enforces it. Plain NFC driver ID only identifies: a reader on the GPS tracking device's IOX port records who tapped in, so trips, scorecards and hours follow the person instead of the truck.

Every vehicle in the High Point GPS platform carries its own whitelist of drivers. The driver taps an NFC key on the reader and the GPS tracking device checks the ID against the list. On a match, the relay closes, the vehicle starts and the trip is logged to that driver. Without one, the vehicle stays off and the platform records the attempt. When a driver's licence class, medical or certification lapses, you remove them from the vehicles that require it with a click, and the change applies at the next tap.

Fleets whose vehicles need a specific credential (a licence class, a forklift or aerial-lift certification, a hazardous materials endorsement) use it so the engine won't start for anyone who lacks it. Shared pools use it so the unassigned van doesn't turn into everyone's van. Rental and equipment fleets use it to stop machines running under an operator who isn't on the contract, and municipalities use it where a collective agreement assigns vehicles by classification.

The relay enforces whatever list you maintain, so get the list right before the relay goes in. Write down three things first. Which credential does each vehicle class require, and who confirms it? How does a driver get added or removed, and how fast after a licence or certification changes? And what is the override procedure when a vehicle has to move and the authorized driver isn't there? The override is the step fleets forget. A supervisor code, a spare fob held by dispatch or a time-limited unlock from the High Point GPS platform all work. A truck stuck in a flooded yard because its only authorized driver is on vacation does not. High Point GPS sets up the override with the whitelist and tests it before the installer leaves.
