What Is MyGeotab? The Fleet Platform High Point GPS Supports

MyGeotab is Geotab's web-based fleet management software, and it is the platform underneath everything High Point GPS installs, customizes and supports. It turns vehicle data into fleet tracking, safety and compliance tools. Geotab says it connects about 6 million vehicles and assets for more than 100,000 customers, which matters because the system under your fleet does not come from a small, unproven vendor.

It works in two pieces. The GPS tracking device is the hardware: it connects to the vehicle's diagnostic port through a harness and streams location, speed, trip and engine data in near real time. MyGeotab is the software, a web dashboard where that data turns into live maps, driver behaviour scoring, engine fault alerts, maintenance reminders and custom reports. Those features come with every package instead of sitting behind a premium tier.

MyGeotab is built as an open platform, which sets it apart from competitors that sell a closed box. A public SDK and the Geotab Marketplace, a large library of first- and third-party add-ins, let it connect to fuel cards, dispatch software, cameras and other tools, so you are not locked into one vendor's walled garden. The same openness is what makes custom Add-Ins, such as our own GeoDocs, possible.

The hardware expands the same way. Every GPS tracking device has a built-in IOX port that accepts cameras, sensors and other accessories without replacing the base unit. A fleet can start with basic tracking and add capability over time, without committing to everything (or nothing) on day one.

If you're new to MyGeotab, start with the GPS tracking device and standard reporting. Add video safety, compliance (ELD/DVIR/IFTA) or custom Add-Ins as specific needs come up, instead of trying to configure everything on day one.

A staged rollout also tends to get better adoption inside the company. A team that learns live tracking and basic reporting first, then adds compliance and safety modules once the basics are second nature, ends up using the platform every day. A team handed every module at once is more likely to slide back to old habits after the first training session.

Decide early who owns which part of the platform. A dispatcher checks live location daily, a safety manager reviews driver scoring weekly, and whoever handles compliance runs reports quarterly. All of them sign in to the same MyGeotab database for different reasons. Naming those owners from the start keeps the platform from becoming one person's job by default.
