Lytx Surfsight AI-12 on High Point GPS: What the Camera Detects and How It Integrates

Surfsight is Lytx's camera platform for fleets that run telematics from someone else; the AI-12 is its dual-facing unit with a road lens, a driver lens and on-device machine vision. Lytx's detection models come from one of the largest driving-video datasets in the industry, which is the company's argument for accuracy: fewer false distraction alerts, better detection in poor light, and event classification that has been tuned across many fleets.

Road-facing: following distance, forward collision risk, lane departure, rolling stops. Driver-facing: phone use, distraction, drowsiness, seat belt, smoking and eating where enabled. Events trigger an in-cab alert, save a clip and upload it over the camera's own LTE connection. Through the add-on library integration, events appear in the High Point GPS platform as exceptions on the vehicle and driver, so they count on the same scorecard as the GPS tracking device's speeding and harsh-braking events, and the clips are reachable from the High Point GPS record. Continuous footage is retrievable from the camera's storage on request.

Event clips are stored in the cloud for a retention period the fleet sets, typically 30 to 90 days, and continuous footage stays on the camera's SD card until it is overwritten, usually within one to three weeks depending on channel count. Privacy settings decide whether the driver-facing lens records continuously or only around events, whether audio is captured, and which the High Point GPS platform roles may open a clip. Fleets in Quebec and Ontario generally document these choices in a written camera policy signed by drivers before the cab lens is enabled, which is also what an insurer asks to see.
