Lytx Surfsight AI-12 Camera on High Point GPS: What It Detects and How It Integrates

The Surfsight AI-12 camera from Lytx is a dual-facing dash cam, with a road lens, a driver lens and on-device machine vision, that connects to the High Point GPS platform through the add-on library. Surfsight is Lytx's camera line for fleets that run telematics from another provider. Lytx says its detection is developed with insights from what it calls the largest driving database of its kind, and it credits that data for fewer false distraction alerts, better detection in poor light, and event classification tuned across many fleets.

The road lens detects following distance, forward collision risk, lane departure and rolling stops. The driver lens catches phone use, distraction, drowsiness and seat belt use, plus smoking and eating where enabled. Each event triggers an in-cab alert, saves a clip and uploads it over the camera's own LTE connection. Through the add-on library integration, events appear in the High Point GPS platform as exceptions on the vehicle and driver, on the same scorecard as the GPS tracking device's speeding and harsh-braking events, and you open the clips from the High Point GPS record. Continuous footage can be pulled from the camera's storage on request.

Some fleets know Lytx from a previous telematics platform and want the same camera on High Point GPS. Others need auxiliary channels for side and rear coverage, which the AI-12 supports, or have an insurer or client contract that names Lytx. And some ran a side-by-side trial and preferred its detection in their conditions; High Point GPS arranges those trials for larger deployments.

The AI-12 runs on its own video plan, separate from the GPS tracking device plan, priced per camera per month and tiered by how much on-demand retrieval and live streaming you want. Event clips stay in the cloud for 31 days by default, a period that can be configured for the account. Continuous footage stays on the camera's SD card until the card is full and the oldest files are overwritten; the standard 128 GB card holds about 100 hours of video. Privacy settings decide whether the driver lens records continuously or only around events, whether audio is captured, and which High Point GPS platform roles can open a clip. A good practice is to put these choices in a written camera policy that drivers sign before the cab lens goes on.

The camera mounts on the windshield with a power connection, the add-on library integration is enabled in the High Point GPS platform, and your event thresholds are set. It carries its own video and data plan.
