Which Motive Alternatives Do Canadian Fleets Consider?

The Motive alternatives Canadian fleets usually consider are Samsara, Geotab (installed and supported by partners such as High Point GPS), Isaac Instruments, Powerfleet (formerly Fleet Complete) and Verizon Connect. All five have ELDs with active entries on Transport Canada's certified list, so the real differences are the driver app and hardware, the cameras, French-language service and who installs.

Motive, called KeepTruckin until 2022, started in electronic logs and grew into one platform for ELD compliance, AI dash cams, fleet tracking, maintenance and the Motive Card for fuel and expenses. A fleet replacing it is usually replacing several of those pieces at once. This page is a shortlist of options. If you are comparing Motive with High Point GPS only, our High Point GPS vs Motive page covers that pair in depth.

What Matters Most When You Replace Motive?

Start with the logbook, because the ELD is the part a roadside officer checks. Find the exact device each vendor proposes on Transport Canada's list of certified electronic logging devices and confirm the status is active; the certification body has the final say on that status. Then look at what the driver uses every day: a phone app on the driver's own device, an app on a fleet tablet, or a dedicated in-cab tablet from the vendor.

Next, list what else Motive does for you today. If you rely on its dash cams, compare camera views and AI events. If you rely on the Motive Card, ask how the new platform connects to your fuel card. Last, check French-language contracts and support, and who installs: Motive's own installation service is optional, delivered by a Motive employee or a third party, and some fleets self-install, so ask each alternative the same question.

Each row comes from the vendor's own website and from Transport Canada's list of certified electronic logging devices, both read in October 2026. Certification status changes, so check the current entry before you sign.

Samsara: Another Single-Vendor Platform

Samsara is the alternative closest to Motive in shape: one company supplies the vehicle gateway, the AI dash cams, equipment and trailer tracking, and the driver apps, with an open API and an app marketplace for other software. Its VG34, VG54 and VG55 gateways have active entries on Transport Canada's list, it runs a French Canadian website, and it installs through a network of installation partners, from regional specialists to national providers. A fleet that likes Motive's all-in-one model but wants to change vendors will find the most familiar setup here.

Geotab Through a Partner, Such as High Point GPS

Geotab, headquartered in Oakville, Ontario, makes the GO devices and MyGeotab software and works through partners who install, train and support fleets. Drivers log hours in the Geotab Drive app on Android or iOS, and the GO10 has active entries on Transport Canada's list. Because the platform is open, cameras, fuel cards, maintenance software and other add-ons come from several makers.

High Point GPS is one Geotab partner: a Montreal company founded in 2013 that serves over 500 fleets in Canada and the United States, in English and French. Its professional installers work across North America, including Montreal, connecting the GO10 at the OBD-II or 9-pin port through a T-harness with no wires cut. It builds custom add-ins when a fleet needs one, and offers 3-year plans with free equipment, bonuses and bundles.

Isaac Instruments: Trucking Only, From Quebec

Isaac Instruments, based in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville near Montreal, works only with trucking fleets. Drivers use a rugged tablet built for the cab, and Isaac manages the hardware, software and hosting, with a dedicated Client Success Manager for each client. Its ISAAC InView system adds forward-facing, side and driver-facing AI cameras, and its open platform lists integrations with TMS products and with fuel cards such as Comdata and WEX. Installation goes through Isaac-certified partners across North America. For a highway carrier that wants a dedicated tablet instead of a phone app, Isaac is a strong candidate. Our High Point GPS vs Isaac Instruments page compares it with a Geotab setup.

Powerfleet and Verizon Connect

Powerfleet, formerly Fleet Complete, has served fleets since 2000. Its compliance side is the BigRoad ELD and Inspect driver apps, with BigRoad ELD entries active on Transport Canada's list, and the platform adds GPS tracking, AI dash cams and asset trackers. It lists 24/7 customer support and runs a French Canadian website. It fits a fleet that wants compliance, inspections and asset tracking from one vendor.

Verizon Connect's Canadian site presents Reveal for vehicle tracking, Fleet for fleet, routing and dispatch management, and Work for field service scheduling, dispatching and invoicing. Its Verizon Connect Fleet Platform ELD has active entries for Android and iOS on Transport Canada's list. It suits a service business more than a long-haul carrier.

When Should You Stay With Motive?

Staying makes sense when the Motive driver app, cameras and card already work for your drivers and office, and nothing on your list needs a different platform. Switching makes more sense when you want a local partner to install and support the system in French, when you run equipment or light vehicles that need more than an ELD, when you want to choose cameras and add-ons from several makers, or when you prefer a managed in-cab tablet built only for trucking. Ask two or three vendors from this shortlist the same questions, get written answers, and check each proposed device on Transport Canada's list before you sign.

Frequently asked questions

Which Motive alternatives have an ELD certified in Canada?

In October 2026, Transport Canada's list of certified electronic logging devices shows active entries for Samsara, Geotab (GO10), Isaac Instruments (InMetrics), Powerfleet (BigRoad ELD) and Verizon Connect, as well as Motive. The certification body keeps authority over each status, so look up the exact device a vendor proposes before you sign a contract.

Is there a Motive alternative that uses a dedicated in-cab tablet?

Yes. Isaac Instruments, a Quebec company that works only with trucking fleets, supplies a rugged tablet built for the cab and manages the hardware, software and hosting. Samsara, Geotab, Powerfleet and Verizon Connect drivers use an app on an Android or iOS device instead, which can be the driver's phone or a fleet tablet.

Is Geotab an alternative to Motive in Canada?

Yes, for fleets that want an open platform. Its GO10 ELD is certified in Canada, drivers use the Geotab Drive app, and partners such as High Point GPS in Montreal install and support it in English and French. It fits mixed fleets well; a fleet that wants one vendor for everything may prefer a single-vendor platform.
