What Does a Fleet Tracking Reseller Do? How Buying Through a Partner Works

The GPS tracking device and the High Point GPS platform are sold almost entirely through a network of authorized resellers and partners. The reseller is the fleet's contract, its installer, its first line of support and its bill. The platform's own account teams work with the largest enterprise fleets and with the partners; a fleet of ten, fifty or five hundred vehicles buys, installs and gets help through a reseller. That is by design: the platform is the same for everyone, and what differs between fleets is the installation, configuration and integration work a local partner does.

Hardware supply and plan: the reseller sells or leases GPS tracking devices, cameras and IOX add-ons, and sets the fleet up on the High Point GPS platform rate plan that determines which data and features are included. Installation: professional install in the fleet's yard or at a shop, with harnesses for the vehicle types involved, plus swaps and troubleshooting after. Configuration: The High Point GPS platform database built with the fleet's groups, users, rules, exception reports and ELD rulesets, which is where most of the value of the platform is unlocked or left on the table. Add-ins and integrations: add-on library add-ins installed and, where needed, custom add-ins and API integrations with the fleet's dispatch, maintenance or payroll systems. Support: a person who answers the phone, escalates to the platform when it is a platform issue, and trains new dispatchers when staff turn over.

Some resellers do all of that. Some ship a box and send a login. The price for the device and plan may look similar; the fleet's results a year later do not.

Ask who installs, and whether they will come to the yard. Ask what the High Point GPS platform setup includes — a database with the fleet's rules and reports configured, or an empty one. Ask what happens when a device fails, in hours. Ask whether they write add-ins or integrations themselves, and for an example. Ask for references in the fleet's industry, and ask those references how support went in month eight, not week one. Ask whether they resell cameras and ELD under the same contract, so there is one number to call. A reseller that answers all of those specifically is doing the work.
